What are the benefits of exploring new strains of mushrooms?
By exploring new strains of mushrooms, you can expand your knowledge of the latest mushroom varieties. There’s also the possibility of finding new characteristics, benefits, and genetic studies for advanced mycologists.
Are there any specific strains that are more suitable for beginners?
Beginners may try strains that are easier to manage, such as our Golden Teacher Spore Print. You can also opt for one of our easy-to-grow liquid culture strains, such as Reishi, Blue Oyster, Cordyceps, and Pink Oyster.
Are there any specific strains that have unique characteristics compared to others?
Yes, several strains have unique characteristics, such as Enigma, which has a unique mutation, or the Hillbilly, which thrives in cow pastures and woodlands.
What is the best way to store these mushroom strains?
Store liquid products, such as the spore syringes and liquid cultures, in a cool, dark place like a refrigerator. Store dry products, such as spore swabs and spore prints, in a cool, dry place, ideally inside a sealed container at room temperature.
What is the shelf life for these strains?
The shelf lives of our liquid cultures, spore syringes, and dry products are 6 months, 1 year, and several years, respectively. However, to keep them contaminant-free and viable, you must follow the storage instructions.
What are the differences between each product type?
Our liquid cultures are meant for cultivation and growing, while our spores are only for microscopy research. The spore syringes are suspended in liquid, while the spore swabs and prints are dry. Spore swabs use cotton swabs that can be directly applied to slides or agar, while spore prints need to be scraped onto the media before use.
Are there any legal restrictions for purchasing or cultivating these stains?
We ship to 48 out of 50 states, but check your local regulations because legality may vary according to your location.
What safety precautions should I take when working with new mushroom strains?
When working with new mushroom strains, ensure a sterile area and sanitized equipment and tools. That way, you can avoid cross-contamination during your experiments and observe the new strains confidently.
Can I mix different strains in the same cultivation setup?
Mixing different strains in the same cultivation setup or media is possible, but we don’t recommend it. One strain may be more dominant and take over, costing you the less dominant strain. Opt to inoculate them in different setups or grow bags to ensure optimum results every time.
