About Our Products
Our research products are meant for microscopy research purposes only and are not intended for cultivation or consumption.
Gourmet products usually refer to our gourmet liquid culture. These products are generally okay to cultivate and use beyond microscopy research applications, but be sure to ALWAYS check your local laws and regulations before ordering ANY product from our site.
See our terms and conditions for more information.
Spores are for microscopy and research purposes. They’re dormant reproductive cells that require germination before any cultivation can begin – a process that takes weeks and has high contamination risk. Spores are sold legally in most jurisdictions specifically for microscopic study and taxonomic identification. Under a microscope, you can examine their unique shapes, sizes, and surface features that distinguish different species. They store indefinitely when kept properly.
Liquid culture contains live, active mycelium ready for immediate inoculation of growing substrates. It dramatically reduces cultivation time since the fungal network is already established and healthy. However, liquid culture has a shorter shelf life, requires refrigeration, and may have different legal considerations depending on your location. It’s primarily used by cultivators growing gourmet varieties like oyster, shiitake, or lion’s mane mushrooms.
The key difference: spores are for educational microscopy and research, while liquid culture is a cultivation tool for growing edible/medicinal mushrooms. Many customers purchase spores for legitimate microscopy work and separate gourmet liquid cultures for their culinary mushroom projects.

Nope. That’s healthy, early-stage mycelium settling together. Give the syringe a good shake to disperse it.
Storage & Shelf Life
All orders are protected by our 90 day clean culture guarantee (including spores).

Next Steps & Research Use
Our products come intended for different purposes. If you are purchasing one of our mushroom spore syringe or spore print products, then you will be using these for microscopy research ONLY.
- Microscopy: Place a drop on a slide, cover-slip, observe at ≥400×.
On the other hand, if you are purchasing one of our gourmet liquid culture syringes, then you will likely be cultivating these for use in culinary or medicinal applications.
- Gourmet cultivation: Inject a grain or all-in-one bag, shake, incubate ~3 weeks, then fruit.
Legality & Conditions of Sale
Mushroom spores that are capable of producing hallucinogenic mushrooms (e.g. P. cubensis) are considered to be federally legal as long as they DO NOT contain active compounds (psil0cybin or psil0cin) and are NOT germinated.
All mushroom spores sold by Fungushead meet the above requirements. We offer mushroom spores for microscopy research purposes only and do NOT condone the cultivation, nor consumption, of magic mushrooms.
While federally legal, state regulations have their own set of laws around mushroom spores capable of producing the active compounds mentioned above. At the time of this writing, the only states to explicitly ban magic mushroom spores and/or mycelium are CA, FL, ID, & GA. Any attempts at ordering to these states will be refused.
By ordering you agree that:
- All magic-mushroom products are for microscopy research only—not cultivation or consumption.
- You’re at least 18 years old and legally allowed to receive the goods.
- You accept responsibility for complying with local laws.
See our full Terms and Conditions here.
- Magic-mushroom spores are legal in most U.S. states as long as they contain zero active compounds (psil0cybin or psil0cin) and are ungerminated. Always confirm your local laws and regulations before ordering from our site.
- We do NOT ship magic mushroom spores to CA, FL, ID or GA.
- We do NOT provide cultivation advice unless in relation to one of our legal, gourmet culture varieties.
