Spore Swabs

Magic mushroom spore swabs contain the spores of certain mushroom strains. You can use the spore swabs for microscopy observation or in one of the mushroom inoculation methods by transferring the spores to an agar dish and letting the mycelium grow. 

Both spore syringes and liquid cultures use liquid media to suspend the mushroom’s spores or culture. Spore swabs contain the spores on a dry cotton swab, making it last longer when stored properly.

Yes, spore swabs are beginner-friendly because they can be directly transferred to an agar dish by rubbing or suspending them with a drop of water for microscopy observation on a slide. For an even easier way to observe spores, you can try a spore syringe already contained in a liquid media.

To ensure proper sterilization, clean and disinfect the surface areas you’ll be working with using isopropyl alcohol, disinfect your tools, wash your hands, and wear sterile gloves. Store it properly in a cool, dry place away from direct light.

To maintain their viability, store your spore swabs in a cool, dry place, away from direct light, such as keeping them inside an airtight container in a cupboard. Avoid freezing them as this could damage their viability. 

Because they’re sustained in a dry condition, spore swabs could remain effective for much longer time and could last for years before they lose potency. You can check their viability by using an agar dish. 

Yes, you can reuse a spore swab as long as you make sure they’re not contaminated. Remember to place them into a sterile container after use and store them properly afterward. 

Some common troubleshooting involves checking your pH level, nutritional content, moisture content, air exchange, and viability. Adjust accordingly and see improvements, or use another agar dish to test its viability.
